How Do I Build Big Muscles On My Thighs and Calves?

I am 22, 5foot and I weigh about 140ish...of course female...and most of my weight is in the thighs and as well as my stomach and arms...however i use to be an advent runner and would like to get back into that routine..but this time i don't want to have marathon runner legs...but the big thighs that sprinters have..of course nothing disproportional but i would like to make my already large legs into muscle...what is the best advice..today i started to run with my dog at a local park where there is a trail that has a 10meter incline..i ran up a few times but was quickly tired out for today...so i heard in order to build muscle your suppose to heal one day and exercise the next..is this true if not what would be the best advice for what i want to achieve and how long if i stay devoted will i be able to see results?
